Daily Devotional. Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that Proceedeth out of the Mouth of God. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt Worship the Lord thy God, AND HIM ONLY shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Matthew 4:1-4,7,10-11. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have Faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; AND NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE UNTO YOU. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by Prayer and Fasting. Matthew 17:16,18,20-21. I saw a T-shirt with a picture of an old medieval Knight down on one knee with his head bowed towards the earth. The caption read, “The devil thought he had me, until he heard me say, AMEN” As a physical man, Jesus would have been at his absolute weakest and most vulnerable place in his ministry. Satan comes in “for the kill” thinking Jesus, as a weakling, will be “easy pick’ins” and give in to anything Satan wants. During Fasting, the body is denied whatever it wants and becomes VERY weak after 40 days. BUT HIS SPIRIT, with no physical problems to deal with, SOARS TO THE HEAVENLIES and has more than enough Strength to Rebuff and Rebuke even the strongest attacks Satan has to offer. Man, at his weakest, In and Through Christ, will still Greatly, Be Blessed.
